community service
High School Students at Covenant Classical Christian School serve the people of Columbia by completing ten hours of community service per year. Community service gives students the opportunity to do good works for other people. While serving, students find out more about their gifts and talents and how they can better serve God’s kingdom. Because community service is structured, being supervised by the student’s homeroom teacher, we are able to guide and direct students, maximizing their experience.
To guide students we require that their service benefit the community or society on a strictly voluntary basis. We intend for their service to reach beyond their family, school, or church community (although we do allow students to serve on missions trips). Ideally, students would focus on one area over the course of a year, allowing them to develop deeper relationships and to learn more about one area.
In the past students have served in a variety of ways. The areas of opportunity available are as wide open as the areas in which people or organizations are in need. Students can visit a shut-in on a regular basis or help at a shelter for the homeless or assist a neighborhood Bible club.
